Electrical Engineering


Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism.  Electrical engineering is considered to deal with the problems associated with systems such as electric power transmission and electrical machines . From a different point-of-view, electrical engineers are usually concerned with using electricity to transmit electric power, while electronic engineers are concerned with using electricity to process information. The sub-disciplines can overlap, for example, in the growth of power electronics, and the study of behavior of large electrical grids under the control of digital computers and electronics.

The following courses offered by the department:

  1. B-Tech Electrical
  2. M-Tech Electrical (Power System)

The Department of Electrical Engineering was incepted in 2011 which offers a regular 4 year B. Tech program in Electrical Engineering with an intake of 60 students. Regular M.Tech program in “Power System” was started in 2013 with an intake of 24 students. Our institute is the first self financed institute which offers M.Tech specialized in ”Power System”.

Our graduates will have the basic experimental, design and communication skills needed either to continue on to the graduate level or to pursue careers in an extremely diverse field including government sectors(Electricity Department, Railway Departrment, NTPC, NHPC etc) and industrial sectors, with job responsibilities in research, design, development, operations and maintenance.

 Laboratories Available:-
1.Electrical Technology lab

Experiments related to basic fundamental laws like KVL, KCL, Network Theorems (Thevenin, Norton, Maximum power transfer, Superposition) etc are performed. Apart from these, experiments based upon electrical machines like testing on transformer and speed control of DC motor and electrical instruments (Ammeter, Voltmeter and Wattmeter) at introductory level are performed.

2. Electrical Machine Lab


Efficiency, characteristics of electrical machines are determined by performing open circuit, short circuit and load test. Experiments related to Electrical Machine like A.C and D.C Machines  are performed in which voltage and current of the machine is determined.

3. Network analysis and synthesis Lab


The parameters and functions of the network are analyzed by performing open circuit and short circuit test. Experiments related to transient response of RL and RC circuits, filters etc are performed.

4. Electrical Workshop

The basic knowledge of electrical tools and symbols, repairing of home appliance, different wiring techniques, tubes (Fluorescent, sodium lamp and neon lamp) and starters is provided.

5. Power System Lab

Experiments related to measure the dielectric strength of transformer oil, string efficiency of string insulator, to measure the ABCD parameters of transmission line, parallel operation of two alternators, testing of current transformer, power angle characteristics of transmission line, testing and calibration of energy meter, characteristics of IDMT relay are performed.

6. Analog Electronic Lab
Aim of the lab is to observe the characteristics of FET (Field Effect Transistors), UJT (Uni Junction Transistor), BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistors), PN junction and verify the results graphically. Concept of voltage regulation and use of Zener diode as voltage regulator is studied and verified.

7. Communication System Lab

Basic principles of communication are discussed. Recoganization of message signal, carrier signal and modulation of the signal is analyzed. Various analog modulation techniques used are AM (Amplitude Modulation), FM(Frequency Modulation), PM (phase modulation) and the digital techniques are ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying), PSK (Phase Shift Keying) and FSK(Frequency Shift Keying). Sampling, sensitivity, fidelity and selectivity of the radio signals are performed.

8. EMMI Lab

Experiment related to measure the capacitance using De Sauty’ bridge, inductance by Maxwell bridge, low resistance by Kelvin Double bridge, frequency using Wein bridge, calibration of Energy meter, measure the power by two wattmeter method, conversion and calibration of galvanometer into voltmeter and ammeter are performed.

9. EIM Lab
Displacement using LVDT, temperature using RTD, pressure using strain gauge, temperature coefficient of material using thermocouple, OP- AMP as AD/DA converter, speed of DC motor using magnetic pick up and photo electric pick up are measured.

10. Signal and System Lab

Experiment related to PPM (Pulse position modulation), PWM ((Pulse width modulation), PAM(Pulse amplitude modulation), Low pass and high pass filters Harmonics using spectrum analyzer an d sampling rate of signals are performed

11. Power Electronic Lab
Experiments related to semiconductor devices are performed. Experiment on Rectifier, inverter, cyclo-converters are performed. Different type of semiconductor devices like SCR.IGBT, MOSFET, Power Diode characteristics are obtained by experiments.

12. Control System Lab
Experiments related to light intensity control using PID controller, Temperature control, Compensation design, Potential metric error detector, relay control, DC position control, stepper motor characteristics and its control and synchros are performed. 

13. Microprocessor Lab

Familiarization of 8086 microprocessor kit, Various Program are performed on TASM like (program to find the largest number, smallest number, addition, subtraction, to find the power of a number etc. )

Digital Electronic Lab
 Verification of K-Maps with different Examples (4 variables), Study of  various TTL gates and its verification through Truth tables, analyzing of multiplexer and demultiplexer, comparison of two four bit number using comparator are performed.
